Thanks to information sourced and posted by Ashlee, to the the Australian Raw Fed Cats Facebook group, we now know why Meat Mates are missing in action. The below message was posted to the group on 16 January 2023:
Hi Ashlee,
Thanks for reaching out to us with your query.
Here at Meat Mates, we are proud to produce high quality, nutritionally balanced diets
that allow your pet to truly thrive. Our high meat diets are made fresh in New Zealand
with locally sourced wholefood ingredients, and as such, we collaborate with a variety of
local New Zealand manufacturers to secure supply and produce our super premium offering.
Unfortunately, due to constraints at our canning manufacturers outside of our control, we have had to delete our Meat Mates canned SKU’s.
We recognize that these SKU’s play an important role in many of our valued customers
feeding regimes. Therefore, we are working on, and hope to find a resolution that will
enable us to bring these SKU’’s back to market at a point in time.
In the meantime, you are still able to purchase Meat Mates in our freeze-dried format.
Whilst not exactly the same, adding water to these products when feeding creates a similar taste to the canned variant your pet loves.
We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this deletion and appreciate
your cooperation with us as we work to develop a favourable outcome. Our priority continues to be supplying our pets with the absolute best in premium nutrition from the
safest, highest quality New Zealand ingredients.
Warm regards,
Your Fellow Meat Mate
We’ll keep an eye out for their return, but sadly, it looks like we’ve lost Meat Mates for the foreseeable future.
At the time of their disappearance, the approximate lowest cost of Meat Mates was $1.76 per 100g. The next cheapest comparable option would be ZiwiPeak or Feline Natural tins and pouches, which can be found at roughly $2.18 per 100g at the time of posting.
For someone with a 4kg cat, if they were only eating Meat Mates previously, the weekly cost would have been around $14.08. If switching to ZiwiPeak or Feline Natural, the new weekly cost would be around $18.33. That’s an overall increase of $4.25 per week to make the switch.
