Thanks to information sourced and posted by Kelly, to the the Australian Raw Fed Cats Facebook group, we now know why 5 certain flavours of ZiwiPeak are missing in action. The below message was posted as a comment to the group on 22 July 2022:
Hi Kelly,
We’re very sorry to hear you’re having difficulty sourcing our Rabbit & Lamb cans.
Over the course of the last 3 years, ZIWI has tackled many challenges driven by a variety of macro-economic factors, including the ongoing disruption to global supply chains due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, over the past 5 months these challenges have increased significantly impacting ZIWI’s ability to ship enough product to meet the growth in global demand for our quality product.
However, the impact on our ZIWI Peak Wet manufacture i.e.canning, has been more severe leading to ongoing disruption to wet food supply. We continue to face manufacturing constraints exacerbated by unprecedented global demand for our high-quality Peak Originals and Provenance canned range.
New equipment is being commissioned at our can manufacturing site and we are optimistic this will lead to capacity improvements. However, for the next 6-12 months, this capacity is unlikely to increase enough to fulfil demand requirements from our customers across the globe.
The ZIWI team has reviewed several options to work through the supply situation for ZIWI Peak Wet Recipes, but unfortunately, we have been faced with the difficult decision to limit our can SKU range for a period of time to provide the best chance of accessing demand in your market. As part of the SKU rationalisation production of the Rabbit & Lamb cans have unfortunately been put on hold for approx. 6 – 12 months, so there are no expected shipments with Rabbit & Lamb due to arrive in Australia.
I know this will be disappointing news for you as this is your cats favourite flavour. So, as you mentioned you would be better to keep the cans you have as treats. Our Venison recipe is still being produced and like the Rabbit is a novel protein which isn’t widely fed so many cats that love the Rabbit & Lamb cans also tend to really enjoy the Venison cans. Has your cat tried our Venison cans?
Thanks Shelley
So, there we have it.
Rabbit and Lamb looks to be one of the flavours that got the chop, but will supposedly be back on shelves in 6-12 months. If this message was sent sometime in mid-July 2022, we can then assume that we will be waiting until at least mid January 2023 to mid July 2023 before we see this and the other ‘on hold’ flavours return.
The other flavours we have noticed disappear are essentially the entire Provenance line of canned flavours; East Cape, Otago Valley and Hauraki Plains (the air dried range of these flavours is still fine however).
Finally, the Kahawai flavour is also apparently included in those that are on hold. Though, we’ve not noticed this one so much yet, as perhaps due to it not being as popular, there still seems to be a lot of it around. Of the 12 stockists we’ve found for this flavour, 9 still have it available.
If your cat (like mine) has lost their favourite flavour, you can use the list of quick links below to find alternatives (or grab some of the last remaining stock of the on hold flavours) – best of all, only stores that are in stock will be shown.
